I'm not sure how much of this still applies with Phase 3, but this might also be a helpful installation trouble-shooting guide:

If there are things that need to be changed on there, just let me know.  Looking forward to seeing what's new with Phase 3!  Thanks, Zargon0225.

Has the IE7 dependancy been dropped ?

April 7th 2009, at 5:51 AM

Nope, Shoddy behaviour from the people who are alledgely backing a gamers charter.  Looks like the inward eye is no longer facing the right direction.

It has for Impulse Anywhere.

The IE7 thing was not SDs fault.  They didn't have any choice.

April 7th 2009, at 6:41 AM

Impulse Anywhere will drop the IE7 dependancy. I think IIRC there's info on that due anytime.

Edit - I should not take so long to do a response...(damn windowed Poker.... )

Astrath is of course right.

Has the IE7 dependancy been dropped ?

Yes and no.  We are still requiring IE7, however we let the installer continue now in case there is a false negative on the detection which some users have seen.

Can I ask why you would not want to update your OS to the most secure version of Internet Explorer?  Even if you don't use the browser, many applications use the control for IE which could allow malware into your machine.

If I enable the option to view demos, it gives me the SOaSE demo, even though I have the full product.

I never got a great answer to this question, either, Zargon.  The closest I saw was "keeping my system clean of unused apps", "not seeing the blue E", and "Steam doesn't require it, so neither should Impulse", which still don't address the harm in having a core system component installed.

Good to know the check for IE 7 was dropped, though.  Now, if people complain about not browsing within Impulse correctly we'll need to find out if they have IE 7, but at least that burden is more on them that an inaccurate check (too bad it wasn't accurate, though).

I only use firefox I use a custom stripped out nLite install (Best application ever made) of proper XP (Yes I have several proper copies blah blah) I have always removed every fragment of unused irrelevant programs.

While I understand that using others work as a basestone is a great time saver it relies on that application being at least semi competently coded.  I can neither install IE 6,7 or 8. Yet Firefox and Opera install FLAWLESSLY under 99.9% of any situation.

Its the principle of the thing gorram it.

I log on over my easter holidays and play myself a game of SIns and think awesome Entrenchment wheeee. *BOINK* Whats this an error noise IE7 WTF to install a intrusive platform downloader that will dial out whenever it damn well pleases and wont go away when you exit it! No I dont think so Id rather use STEAM :shudder:

I am deeply unhappy that a company that is so inspirational with great games and the right attitude to game development is so short sighted in the design of its own bloody distribution platform.

So when and where is Stardock Anywhere ?

Chat doesn't work.  Error: Connection Refused.  This error message is way down at the bottom, and can't be seen without scrolling down.

If I then try to go to Games, it never loads but instead keeps showing Chat.

anywhere.impulsedriven.com

Right-clicking on a rating can set it, which is a little confusing if you are trying to bring up the right-click menu.

Sorting on status does nothing for uninstalled games/programs.

In detail view:

The columns in the My Games list are way too large and not resizable.

The mouseover on non-Impulse games shows:   Game Title.  Installed (v.)

There is a huge amount of unused whitespace at the bottom next to the program icon, with a More [v] icon at the end, whose options could easily fill that space.

??????? Impulse doesn't dial whenever it pleases and it goes away when you exit it.

BTW, in impulse phase 3 there is a tray app, whose settings can be changed.
